It’s the end of summer, with autumn poking through. It’s darkish outside when we awake and prepare for school, with the excitement of seeing old classmates and meeting new ones, of rearranging our routines to fit the season’s schedules.
This year, we have the added excitement of composting food scraps at Ashland’s Bellvue School! We started three weeks ago, and so far it’s been seamless and fruitful. The students are excited to learn about the importance of composting food scraps, the kitchen staff are super helpful and on board, and we are collecting hundreds of pounds of leftovers! We’re hoping some of the compost created this year can go into the school garden next year.
A huge thank you! To Soroptimists International of Ashland for getting this ball rolling! It is thanks to their seed funding that we were able to get the program started. And a huge thank you! To Christine McCollom and the Bellvue Staff, for their warm reception and willingness to give it a try.
